Breathe Easy
A couple days ago, I found myself juggling multiple tasks while trying to focus on a single project. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t seem to get that one thing done. My brain was scattered, constantly reminding me of other tasks I needed to complete. The more I tried to concentrate, the more stressed and tight-chested I felt.
I attempted some breathwork at my desk, using a meditation on Insight Timer, but it didn’t help this time. Realizing I needed a break, I decided to go for a walk, even though I felt pressed for time. I put in my earbuds and headed to the Atlanta BeltLine, listening to a walking meditation.
After about 15 or 20 minutes, I felt much better. The tightness in my chest was gone, and I was ready to tackle my project. My tip for you is to take a break and go for a walk when you’re stressed and unfocused. It can make a big difference.
You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.

Three Actions to Take Immediately:
- Practice Deep Breathing: Take a few minutes to focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a count of four, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat this process several times to calm your mind and body. Use this meditation to guide you.
- Engage in Physical Activity: Physical exercise is a natural stress reliever. Whether it’s a brisk walk (one of my favorite things to do), a yoga session, or a quick workout, moving your body helps release endorphins, which can improve your mood and reduce anxiety.
- Create a Relaxation Space: Designate a small area in your home where you can go to unwind. Fill this space with items that bring you comfort, such as soft pillows, a cozy blanket, or soothing scents. Spend a few minutes here each day to relax and recharge. Here’s a visualization for you to create your own relaxing space.
I hope these tips and prompts help you find relief from stress and anxiety. Remember, taking small steps each day can lead to significant improvements in your overall well-being.
