Finding Focus: Own Your Attention in an Age of Distraction

I just finished reading Finding Focus by Zelana Montminy, and it hit me right where I live: in that space between constant distraction and the deep longing for presence.

What I loved most is how practical her approach is. She doesn’t shame you for being distracted (something I definitely don’t need more of); instead, she offers small, doable shifts to reclaim attention. Her stories and science felt accessible, not overwhelming—which made me feel like change is possible even in the middle of my messy, busy days.

For me, the biggest takeaway is the reminder that focus isn’t about rigid discipline—it’s about intentional choices. I’m already experimenting with her techniques, like building short focus sprints (something I do on and off with my little pomotimer) and creating rituals that signal my brain it’s time to pay attention. These aren’t grand overhauls, but tiny, compassionate practices I can actually keep.

I’ll be carrying these tools into my own mindfulness work—because focus isn’t just about getting more done, it’s about reclaiming my peace.
