Jonathan Livingston Seagull

As I was looking through my bookcase (which is rare since I’m usually reading on my Kindle) and I came across my original copy of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I probably hadn’t read it in 45+ years but have always remembered it fondly. The concepts were big and profound. Bigger than my 10-year-old mind could truly appreciate (although I recall gushing over the book at the time and reading it over and over).

Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a simple story with an insightful message.

We can all be so much more than we believe, or are given to believe.

That God, the Universe or providence cheers on the daring. The fearless. And the adventurer.

  • I remember feeling empowered (even though that word was beyond my understanding).
  • I remember feeling good about everything in my life (even when I struggled with a divorced home).
  • I remember feeling full of life and possibility.
  • And I was excited to go forth and live my life.

That is the legacy of this book. An uncomplicated story that inspired millions.
